Revere Issues Warning After Kratom Found at Store

Board of Health · Meeting of September 24, 2026

Revere Board of Health reports a 57% drop in opioid overdose deaths in 2025, the lowest total since 2016. Director of Public Health Lauren Buck credited citywide Narcan boxes, a contracted street medicine doctor, 60 weekly hours of street outreach, a new housing-focused case manager and a sober-home scholarship program, saying 2025 marks "Revere's third straight year in a row with declining overdose deaths." Separately, Director of Inspectional Services Michael Wells reported 350 trash violations and 133 citations for overgrown or unsanitary land in September. A kratom-ban enforcement sweep of 28 retailers found one violation, at Quick Food Store on Revere Street, where about 25 confiscated items prompted a warning letter to the owner.

The board also flagged Revere's "high" West Nile virus risk designation, the state's top tier, now that seasonal mosquito spraying on private property has ended for the year.
